Bill Dixon Memorial To Be Held on Saturday, July 31

A memorial will be held for the late trumpeter Bill Dixon at New York’s St. Mark’s Church In The Bowery on Saturday, July 31, at 5:30 p.m. Dixon died on June 16 at his home in North Bennington, Vt. He was 84.

The public event will include a performance of Dixon’s last composition by his Tapestries For Small Orchestra ensemble, which premiered the work at Dixon’s final performance on May 22 at the Festival International de Musique de Victoriaville in Canada. The group includes Taylor Ho Bynum (cornet), Graham Haynes (cornet), Stephen Haynes (trumpet), Rob Mazurek (cornet), Glynis Lomon (cello), Michael Cote (clarinet), Ken Filiano (bass) and Warren Smith (percussion).
