Elkhart Jazz Fest Honors jj Babbitt’s Rocco Giglio

Rocco “Rocky” Giglio, president and chief operating officer for jj Babbitt Company, received the Van and Jean Young Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Elkhart Jazz Festival, held June 20–23 in Elkhart, Ind.

Giglio was recognized for his years of contributions to the internationally known jazz festival since the event’s inception in 1987, as well as for more than a half-century of work in the band instrument industry. The award plaque reads: “The Elkhart Jazz Festival’s Lifetime Achievement honor is awarded to ‘Rocky’ Giglio for his many valuable contributions to America’s band instrument industry and his major support of jazz in Elkhart.” Giglio plays saxophone with the Jazz Assemblage, a group that performs annually at the festival.

Giglio joined jj Babbitt in 1999 as vice president of operations. In 2007, he was named president and COO by the company’s owner, Bill Reglein. Prior to joining jj Babbitt, Giglio held various positions with The Woodwind & Brasswind, Selmer Bach and United Musical Instruments.

A professional musician, Giglio is proficient on all woodwinds, including clarinet, saxophone, flute, oboe and bassoon. In addition to playing with Jazz Assemblage, he has played with A Cut Above and The Nostalgics. During his career, Giglio has played backup for such notables as The Temptations, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Bob Hope, Nancy Wilson and many others.

The jj Babbitt Company is an OEM supplier of mouthpieces for clarinets and saxophones to the world’s largest instrument manufacturers.
