Anoushka Shankar Releases New Album, Video Featuring Norah Jones
Posted 10/11/2013

The new album from sitarist Anoushka Shankar, the daughter of legendary musician and composer Ravi Shankar, is Traces Of You (Deutsche Grammophon).

The CD, Shankar’s seventh, will be released on Oct. 22. The disc features her half-sister, Grammy Award-winning pianist and singer-songwriter Norah Jones, on three songs.

During the recording process, Anoushka Shankar lost her father, and the album became a reflection of her loss. “I approached the album as a whole, as opposed to a series of songs,” Shankar said. “A lot of it happened unconsciously. Life took a journey of its own and the music followed that form. The sitar leads the listener through the album like a narrator.”

Jones, who released the Blue Note album Little Broken Hearts in 2012, contributes vocals to the album and co-wrote the last track, “Unsaid,” with Anoushka Shankar.

Watch the video for “Traces Of You,” directed by Shankar’s husband, filmmaker Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, Anna Karenina), featuring Jones, here.
